In this stylish, rustic bedroom, Minnesota based design firm Martha O’Hara Interiors took the masculine edge off a reclaimed wood ceiling and stone fireplace with contrasting fabrics. Details including the plush neutral bedding and the country plaid curtains add softness and a sense of balance to the room. There is no need for a traditional end table when you have tree stump you can paint half white. The small wing chair on the right may not seem like a typical choice for a rustic bedroom, and that's the point. It lends sophistication while providing a practical purpose.
Designer Lee F. Mindel isn't afraid of color, and this modern Miami Beach getaway is proof. In the guest bedroom, which Mindel brought to life with Benjamin Moore’s Cool Aqua, the headboard in a Link Textiles fabric matches the wall panels. The bed is dressed in custom linens by E. Braun & Co. The Oluce lamps are from MSK Illuminations, and the nightstands are from Design Within Reach.

Now that you have the basis for your bedroom decor formed around your furniture, next is one of the most important steps. Update the Bed! Buy a new comforter, duvet, or bedspread. Better yet: Buy an entire new set complete with high thread count sheets and pillow shams. After all, you sleep here! Isn’t is worth the investment?  If you’re not able to buy an entire set, then start with one or two items. And don’t forget a soft and fluffy throw and pretty pillows! Oh, and a stunning headboard. Not in the budget? No problem, once again, DIY to the rescue! You can decorate your bedroom on the cheap, without it looking cheap!
A bedroom should look cozy and simple, sophisticated, and elegant, regardless of what style of decorating you choose. For ease of movement, leave a minimum of three feet between the bed and side walls or large pieces of furniture and at least two feet between the bed and low furniture, like tables and dressers. If you have to walk around the bed to get from the closet to the bathroom, think of how you can move the bed.
The last step to DIY bedroom decor is lighting. Our first tip is not to use overhead lighting in your bedroom. It is harsh, unflattering light that is the farthest thing from relaxing. Install sconce lights, use reading lights on the nightstand, light pretty scented candles, and please, oh please try this DIY fairy light canopy idea from ‘Mr Kate‘! Other solutions would be to stencil or wallpaper the ceiling, add architectural elements in the form of beams or moldings or use a decorative paint treatment. For ultimate luxury, silver-leafed bedroom ceilings, a canopy or tented bed with a dressing that hangs from the ceiling can envelop you in sensuality and warmth while adding texture, design, and color to the ceiling. Add a molded medallion and chandelier of crystal or delicate shades bringing color, pattern, and texture to the "fifth wall" above you.
If you like to have a bold bedroom decor, you can try the bold and vibrant painted color wall. The yellow and dark blue color will create a unique style yet bright vibe to the room. If you think that painted the wall all in a bold color is way too much, you can paint it near the headboard of the bed. Complete the decor with the cabinets to both sides of the bed.
